The IT Black Hole
Consistent IT issues that never seem to get resolved. Systems that are “always broken” and nobody can explain why — or who’s responsible for fixing them.
I embed inside your operation, see what really happens, and tell you straight.
Book A Confidential ChatThe gut feeling
You know something’s not right in your business — you just can’t put your finger on it. That’s where I come in. I embed myself inside your operation to see what’s really going on, then give you a no-BS plan to fix it.
This is not a survey, a culture workshop or a consultant’s deck. I enter your business under a discreet title — a new consultant, a project resource, a systems reviewer — whatever fits naturally. Nobody knows the real reason I’m there except you. That gives me unfiltered access to how your business actually runs when you’re not looking.
It sits alongside my ongoing business coaching in Melbourne, but it stands on its own. Plenty of owners use it once, act on the report, and never need me again.
Book A Confidential ChatSound familiar?
Consistent IT issues that never seem to get resolved. Systems that are “always broken” and nobody can explain why — or who’s responsible for fixing them.
Staff who default to “that’s not my job”, “we’ve always done it this way”, or push back on every new idea. Innovation dies before it starts.
Critical processes that rely entirely on one person. If they’re sick, on leave, or walk out, the whole operation grinds to a halt.
Tasks that take far longer than they should. Manual workarounds, double-handling, and bottlenecks that nobody seems motivated to fix.
Something’s off with the culture but you can’t quite see it. Cliques, gossip, passive-aggressiveness, or quiet disengagement that’s slowly poisoning the team.
Money’s going out, results aren’t coming in, and the reports look fine on paper. Something doesn’t add up — but you can’t find the disconnect.
How it runs
Three stages, agreed with you up front. Nobody in your business is told anything other than the cover story we settle on together.
We have a private conversation about your concerns, your suspicions and what you’re seeing. I learn the lay of the land before I set foot in the door, and we agree the cover role and the duration.
I come into your business under a credible cover role. I observe, interact, ask questions and experience your operations exactly as your staff and customers do — no filters, no performance theatre.
You receive a detailed, no-BS report that identifies who’s who in the business, where the real roadblocks are, cultural issues, process failures, and a prioritised list of clear action items you can implement immediately.
Nothing off limits
Every business is different, but these are the core areas I evaluate during an embedded assessment. Nothing is off limits.
The deliverables
A comprehensive written report detailing exactly what I found — the good, the bad and the ugly. No sugar-coating, no corporate jargon. Just the truth about how your business is operating when you’re not in the room.
An honest assessment of your people — who’s driving results, who’s coasting, who’s creating friction, and who might be a hidden asset you’re underutilising.
A prioritised, practical list of actions you can take immediately. No vague recommendations. Specific steps to address the issues uncovered, ranked by impact and urgency.
A private face-to-face session where I walk you through every finding, answer your questions and help you plan next steps. This is where clarity hits and decisions get made.
The fit
This service is built for business owners and directors who’ve got a gut feeling that things aren’t running the way they should be — but can’t get a straight answer from the people around them. Maybe you’ve tried asking questions, running surveys, or bringing in consultants who spend three months producing a report that tells you nothing you didn’t already know.
The Undercover Boss service is different. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s designed for leaders who want the truth — even when it’s uncomfortable. Whether you’re running a team of 10 or a workforce of 200, if something feels off, it probably is. And the longer you ignore it, the more it costs you.
It suits owners of trade and service businesses, directors of mid-sized companies, franchise operators who suspect inconsistencies across locations, and any leader who’s been told “everything’s fine” one too many times.
Discretion
Discretion is everything. Your staff won’t know the real reason I’m there. My cover role is agreed upon in advance and tailored to your business so it fits seamlessly. All findings are delivered to you — and only you — unless you decide otherwise. This is your information, your business, your call.
I’m not looking to tick boxes. I’m looking for the truth.
Robert Adelman — The No Bullshit Business Coach
The coach doing the walking
I’m not a clipboard-carrying auditor or a corporate consultant who speaks in buzzwords. I’m a business coach who’s been in the trenches — I’ve run businesses, managed teams, dealt with toxic staff, broken systems and every operational headache you can think of. I know what a healthy business looks like because I know what a broken one looks like too.
Four businesses founded, two exited, 27 years in IT and 15 in digital marketing before coaching became the day job. The full run of it is on the about Rob page, and the reasoning behind the approach is on the why choose Rob page.
The first step is a confidential, no-obligation conversation. Tell me what you’re seeing, what you’re feeling and what you suspect. If you want the assessment to roll into ongoing support afterwards, my no-contract guarantee applies to that work too.

It depends on the size and complexity of your business. Most assessments run between 3 and 10 business days.
We’ll agree on the duration during our initial confidential briefing, based on what you need.
We decide that together. It could be a systems consultant, a process reviewer, or a new hire in a relevant department — whatever makes sense for your business and won’t raise suspicion.
The cover needs to be believable and give me natural access to the areas that matter.
Not from me. Confidentiality is non-negotiable. The only person who knows the real purpose of my presence is you, and anyone you choose to involve.
I operate discreetly and professionally at all times.
Any industry where people, processes and culture drive business outcomes — which is every industry. I’ve worked across trades, professional services, retail, technology, hospitality and more.
The fundamentals of how businesses break down are universal. There is a fuller list on the industries page.
Then you get a report that confirms your business is running well — and that’s valuable intelligence too.
But in my experience, there’s always something. The question is whether it’s a small tweak or a fundamental issue.
Absolutely. The Undercover Boss assessment is designed to stand alone, but if you want ongoing support to implement the action plan, that’s where my broader business coaching services come in.
We can discuss that after the debrief. There is never any obligation to continue.
A consultant is introduced, announced and observed. Everyone behaves for the three weeks they are in the building, and the report reflects the performance rather than the business.
An embedded assessment removes the performance. I see the operation the way your staff and your customers experience it every day.
